I thought this book was very original, and I was surprised how much I liked it.Lindseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06240634669040463676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13602285.post-53244433696656386342011-06-08T12:58:55.874-04:002011-06-08T12:58:55.874-04:00Thanks for your comments, Steve. It does deal with some of the same themes, but I think that's not surprising.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16813084292265103896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13602285.post-38292545408426388202011-06-08T12:51:32.981-04:002011-06-08T12:51:32.981-04:00The zombie-hunting subgenre seems so constrained t...The zombie-hunting subgenre seems so constrained that I think the noncharacteristic story elements must really have predominated. I've lined up Carrie Ryan's zombie sequel _The Dead-Tossed Waves_ for imminent reading because the postapocalyptic faux-Medieval postapocalyptic world of the (wonderfully titled) _The Forest of Hands and Teeth_ allowed for so many other elements to come to the fore, including romance, betrayal, idealism reveled as naivete, and a secret society with, well, decaying secrets.

Also, the world just got a lot more interesting when Ryan revealed its context at the end of the first book.

Thanks for the review. I'll definitely check out _Rot & Ruin_ soon.Steve Sheahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11112362104027669621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13602285.post-5706883529820301412011-05-28T20:02:00.438-04:002011-05-28T20:02:00.438-04:00I'm with you on the whole zombie book thing, b...I'm with you on the whole zombie book thing, but there is no denying the appeal to adolescent boys. My only problem with this one was that it was almost TOO philosophic for middle school students. It was very good, and didn't veer off into goofie, which is all too easy to do with a zombie book!Ms. Yinglinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17805324364289597178noreply@blogger.com
