The next "ology" will be...

Avast, lubbers! Candlewick Press has announced the next book in the wonderful "ologies" series. The newest sequel to Egyptology, Dragonology, and Wizardology will be:

Pirateology!

Amazon.com lists the release date as July 11, and it's probably no coincidence that it will be only a few days after the release of the new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest movie. Pirate fever will be in full swing this summer!

Personally, I was hoping for Faerieology, but I guess it's not to be this time. I'll just have to hope for that one in 2007.

Preorder Pirateology from Amazon.com

April 19, 2007, edited to add: For those of you who just came here from Google, this is an old post. The new "Ology" for 2007 will be Mythology. Click here for more information on Mythology.

Thanks Sheila! I have a niece who LOVES these books, and has a birthday in July. It's wonderful to know about it now.

Great! I hope she loves it. Just be sure to have an alternate present in mind - release dates can be slippery sometimes. I've noticed that the date for this one was moved up - it was originally scheduled for fall - presumably because of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Glad to see you back, Sheila!

Piratology would be good, though I'm with you on Fairiology (Faeriology?) There was "Fairopolis," but it wasn't nearly as good as the "ology" books.

My two best friends, Ariana and Mikayla, and me love all the books. Ariana has alomost all the books so far. She is getting the Egyptology hand book, she probably will get the reg. Egyptology book. I don't have Fairyopolis, both Egyptology books, and maybe 1 or 2 more. We each study the books every night. We all have a certain interest in the books. I can't wait to tell them about the new Faeriology book coming!

Dear Sheila,

The recent ology book is pretty awsome,
but I hope fairiology will come out soon.
I LOVE THESE BOOKS, as they were polished Diamonds! I have every book related to them. They are pretty realistic and fun, and they also tell you about many facts about the topic. I recommend making a ology about science fiction or so, or related topics of space travel and future inventions/ life. Mabye it should be about a boy in the future that gos on a futuristic adventure of a life time.
It may be be called futurology, or so.
Keep up the roll of ideas for ology books!!!

Sincerely,
OLOGY FREEK (-:

no fairyology ... but there IS a book out there called fairyopolis which appears to be a blatant rip-off of the ologies.

Hello,
My friends and I are great fans of the 'ology' books, and we were hoping to see if you were going to be announcing the titles for the books coming out after Pirateology soon. We also have a few suggestions for 'ology' book ideas we would love to have considered. We thought that Mermaids, Vampires, Elves, Unicorns, Spirits (Ghosts), Taurins, Demons, Angels, Phoenixs, Trolls, Leprechauns, Centaurs, godess and Dwarves would make nice 'ology' book ideas. Just some suggestions, and keep up the good work with the books! Thank you!

Those sound like great ideas, and I hope that Candlewick comes out with some more ology books. Unfortunately, I'm not associated with Candlewick and don't have any influence with them. You can keep an eye on Candlewick's web site for news if and when they announce another one in the series.

I think a faerieology book is way overdue. Any word if one is on the way?

No, sorry. I don't know if or when they'll ever do a "Fairyology" book. It looks like the next ology (August, 2008) will be Monsterology: The Complete Book of Monstrous Creatures.

Candlewick is publishing a book in 2008 called Encyclopedia Mythologica: Fairies and Magical Creatures. It's not an official "ologies" book, and it's only partly about fairies (it covers other mythological creatures as well), but it looks interesting. It's created by two of the most talented paper engineers, Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart.
